This was an adorable children’s book with delightful illustrations and such a beautiful story about our best friend, the dog.

I rate this audiobook 5 stars and would recommend to those with children and a love for their dog.

This is a sweet book about a cute puppy who is loved and cherished by its people. The tone is very soothing and the art is soft and calm, so this would make a great wind down book for small children. The story is told in verse, so kids can be encouraged to identify rhyming words. Sometimes word choice and meter are sacrificed for the rhyme and the pattern of emphasis changes mid-stanza, so give this a pre-read before reading aloud. Given how much children are fascinated by puppies, I can imagine this becoming a favorite bedtime book!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

This adorable picture-book touched me.

With it’s simple rhyming prose, gentle watercolor images, and lovely message, reading this book (with a child, or as an adult with the child-in-you listening ) is like wading into a serene and calming lake - losing yourself to something eternal, something bigger and elemental, - something that in the end, is totally comforting.

Just like puppies (and who doesn’t like puppies?) we are all special, and different - starting out in life with nothing but a few simple needs and a whole lot of love to share.

“yes, you like your little mousey,
And you like your little bone,
You like someone to hold you
So you never feel alone”

And that, in a nutshell, is enough. More than enough, to know that you are loved, and nourished and cared for, right now, for who and what you are.

No need to worry about tomorrow, and all the unknown, exciting things awaiting you. What you might learn, and become and what path you might choose.

And all that you need to do, just like every special puppy out there, is be yourself, living your days, and sharing your love with those around you. And it will be returned.

“Some dogs are good at fetching sticks
Or helping people see.
For guarding doors or working chores
But you bring love to me.”

As did this book - and I couldn’t help but love it back.

A warm and heart-lifting experience to share with any child - just because you can.

A great big thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

Maybe it was my wanting to be around a dog, maybe it was that mix of soulful yet playful look in the puppy's eyes, but whatever the reason, I'm glad I decided to give this story a go. It's definitely sweet, and while it's an ode to anyone's love for their puppy and all the joy they can bring with their routines and antics, it also conveys the message that despite all the different characteristics out there, everyone is different, and that's OK.

The illustrations are beautiful and peaceful and made me long for my own doggy to curl up with. They certainly brought both the story and message to life, and I'm sure both children and children at heart will enjoy it.

Many thanks to #Netgalley and the author/publisher for granting an ARC of #ItsOKToBeAPuppy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and are given voluntarily.

Sweet children's storybook. The illustrations are beautiful and almost look like watercolor paintings. The story is told in rhyming words making it great for small kiddos. I see this more as a book to be read to little ones (ages 2-6) rather than something young readers will want to read themselves. I can easily envision reading this as a bed storybook with your own dog snuggled up beside you. Thank you NetGalley and Momma Katie for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet little book, perfect for little one's hands. Beautifully illustrated and and with rhyming verse, it shows a puppy with his favorite toys, and how he is loved by his family.
I loved the soft colors used to illustrate, and the wagging puppy tail.
This is a great book for children 3 to 7 years!
