Description

Buzz Books 2023: Spring/Summer is the 22nd volume in our popular sampler series. As always, Buzz Books presents passionate readers with an insider’s look at 55 of the buzziest books due out this season. Such major bestselling authors as Ryan Holiday, Nancy Horan, Kate Morton, and Abraham Verghese are featured, along with literary greats Jamel Brinkley, Eleanor Catton, Patrick DeWitt, and Cathleen Schine. Other sure-to-be readers’ favorites are a fiction debut by celebrated nonfiction author Helen MacDonald and an adult debut by acclaimed YA author Elizabeth Acevedo. At the end of most excerpts, you will find a link to the full galley on NetGalley!

Buzz Books has had a particularly stellar track record with highlighting the most talented, exciting and diverse debut authors, and this edition is no exception. Shelly Read’s Go As A River, one of a bumper crop of 23 debuts titles, has already been sold to 27 countries. Among the others are Monica Brashears, Tembe Denton-Hurst, Katherine Lin, Janika Oza, and Tyriek White.

Our robust nonfiction section covers such fascinating subjects as the native peoples in America; a literary memoir of growing up with a reggae musician father who was a member of a strict Rastafari sect; and a definitive biography of Martin Luther King, Jr. Bestselling stoicism guru Ryan Holliday offers wisdom for dads, while David Von Drehle provides wisdom from a 109-year-old.

Finally, we present early looks at new work from young adult authors, including: Throwback by Maurene Goo, Queen Bee by Amalie Howard, and Lucha Of The Night Forest by Tehlor Kay Mejia.

Be sure to look out for Buzz Books 2023: Fall/Winter, coming in May.

I look forward to the publication of Buzz Books every season and it never disappoints. This is my source for finding out when my favorite authors are coming out with new books and which debut authors will soon be added to my list of favorites.. This installment of Buzz Books is filled with delicious excerpts that are both culturally and historically rich. I am already in love with some of the complex, witty characters, and many of the beautifully described settings have me ready to add some stamps to my passport.

The list of upcoming reads in every category is extensive and gave me a lot to look forward to this Spring and Summer. Keep these Buzz Book volumes coming!

Running a book blog and bookish social channels, I'm always aiming to keep up on not only what books are popular now, but what books to look out for in the coming weeks and months. Buzz Books 2023: Spring/Summer offers previews of dozens of upcoming books - both fiction and nonfiction. It includes the planned release dates of an extensive list of books, and select books include brief summaries and fairly long excerpts (around 10+ pages) of each one.

Many of the books listed and excerpted here were already on my radar, and I was grateful for the early preview of them. It only builds up my excitement for them! However, I was also thrilled to learn of so many additional books I hadn't yet heard of. Needless to say, my list of highly anticipated books has gotten longer after going through these previews.

Some of the books I was already anticipating, and of which I enjoyed the excerpts here, include Family Lore by Elizabeth Acevedo, Take the Long Way Home by Rochelle Alers, Homecoming by Kate Morton, Medusa's Sisters by Lauren J. A. Bear, House of Cotton by Monica Brashears, Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati, Sisters of the Lost Nation by Nick Medina, and Queen Bee by Amalie Howard.

Some books that were new to me and are now on my list include The Woman in the Castello by Kelsey James, You Can't Stay Here Forever by Katherine Lin, Homebodies by Tembe Denton-Hurst, Berlin by Bea Setton, and The History of a Difficult Child by Mihret Sibhat.

There are also several nonfiction books that weren't on my radar, but I will be checking them out upon publication.

There is so much to look forward to this spring and summer, and I'm glad to have gotten this preview of what's coming.

The "Buzz Books" publications are always fantastic. They help me identify upcoming books that will be helpful for my classes and students--and give me an opportunity to read a bit about the books before requesting full galleys. Thank you for putting these together and making them available!

I LOVE this sneak peek! Thank you, NetGalley!

I'm looking forward to requesting novels by Morton, Verghese, Acevedo, Goo, and others, and to digging into several of the nonfiction and debut titles. I particularly appreciate the notice of books coming out this Spring & Summer that won't be available in galley form but will be hitting our public libraries (e.g., novels by Colson Whitehead and James McBride). The anticipation is delicious!

I always look forward to the Buzz Books compilations. As a librarian, they give me ideas for collection development since library patrons are bound to be looking for many of these titles in our library in the coming months. As a blogger and reviewer, I also appreciate reading the excerpts, which helps me decide which books I may want to request copies of via NetGalley and select for review.
