I instantly liked the look of this book. After reading the synopsis, and being a mother myself, I immediately got that stomach churning feeling, like stone in the pit of my stomach, at the mere thought of losing a child this way. I thought to myself, ” If just the synopsis can make me feel like this, imagine what the story will be like!”.
So I was extremely excited when this dropped onto my shelf!.
All I will say is this...” I was not disappointed!”
I mean, .......well, it’s just fab! The storyline is gripping & it’s really well written. The author seems to have that knack of leaving you feeling on a knifes edge. The palms sweating, heart beat racing.....this is a proper, edge of your seat, page turner!
Highly recommend this book.

The Perfect Mother is a gripping read. It follows the May Mothers, a group of first time mums (and one dad) who have all recently had their babies, sharing their tips and troubles of parenting. Whilst the mothers are all enjoying an alcohol fuelled night out, one of their babies is taken from its cot right under the babysitter's nose. The story then focuses on what happened on that night and what happened to the baby.

I was gripped by this book as the drama starts almost right away. The premise of the story is fairly standard - a child being taken - but the use of the May Mothers group differentiated it from other similar stories that I've read. Unfortunately, I think that this could have been executed a little better. Throughout I was confused as to who was who within the group, who their partners were and who their child was. I found myself playing some sort of memory game whilst reading to try and remind myself who was who.

Molloy effectively addresses many concerns and worries that new mums may have. She raises the issue of comparison and competition between new mums, addressing how often and easy it is for mums to be judged and criticised. She shows us that there is no such thing as a perfect mum. I did very much appreciate this theme throughout the book, however I do think that this may not be the best read for new mums. Not only is it based around a baby being taken, but at times the judgement of the mums in the book made me feel uncomfortable. I think that perhaps it could make new mums worry even more - although I am only going off how I can imagine myself feeling!

Overall I did enjoy this book - I was intrigued throughout and liked the twist and resolution. I would definitely read something by Molloy again in the future.

Thanks to NetGalley and Little Brown for a copy of this e-book in exchange for a review.

This is a really good read. As a Mother I went through a whole range of emotions reading this book. It is really well written and I had no idea what had happened to Midas.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
