Set in the heart of the African Savanna,
Love Big follows moody Baboon as he discovers another powerful secret.

The once lush, thriving, African savanna has turned dry and desolate. Hungry, miserable, and mean animals seek only their own interests. Baboon watches as, one by one, Rhinoceros destroys Termite’s castle in his race to find food, Hare chooses not to share food with her family, and Lion steals food from his pride.

But after Baboon sees Rhinoceros give Hare his snack-on-a-stick, everything changes! Baboon realizes that a transformative power exists between the animals and the star-dust that surrounds them once they share smiles and truly believe in themselves and each other. When Baboon tries out this secret by helping Lion, they share a smile, and CATCH-M, The Magical, Mystical, Miraculous Star-dust that surrounds them, whooshes into their lives to wham! ignite the courage in their chests too. Read on to see if Baboon can save the savanna with this new secret and a very stinky, unlikely hero . . .

Love Big takes place generations after the magic in Kat Kronenberg’s best-selling book, Dream Big. This new book's beautiful message makes it a wonderful gift for those who want to build a loving WE community—from home to school, neighborhoods, church, or travel. This book is teaching us that being kind it is not so hard after all. The illustrations are nice.
Thank you Netgalley for this book.

The illustrations in 'Love Big' bring out the beauty of the Savnnah, the baobab trees standing tall, all the time, Palette of close colors is brilliant. The baboon hollowing out the drum, shows passage of time and gainful activity. The message of sharing is great but the book seems a bit long to make it impactful. The beetle being ridiculed could be a different story.
A little of the mythology background could have been provided.

I loved Miles' illustrations in this picture book. Kronenberg's story about the power of working together is magical, funny, and highly entertaining for children of all ages. This tale is a mythological fable that tells how the lion got his mane, how the hare learned to hop, the rhino learned to be kind (okay this is questionable if Rhino's are kind), and, in the end, the animals of the Savannah all learned how to get along. The last few pages (notes for two-leggers) was cute but really unnecessary and took away from the value of the story.

Thank you NetGalley and Greeleaf Book Group for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy.

The illustrations are phenomenal! That is the biggest bonus of this book. It's a sweet story with a good lesson. I wish that the author had been a bit less "wordy" but that's a preference of mine. The additional resources in the back are great. I can see this as a good read aloud for children around 8 or so.

Love Big is all about learning that being kind to others really isn’t that hard to do. Set in the African Savanna, Baboon closely watches his friends. They have become grumpy since the land became dry and they became hungry.

Through random kind acts, the animals learn that they might be hungry, tired, thirsty but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be kind to their fellow animals. It makes for a better living environment.

The book is filled with full-page bright, colourful illustrations that bring the African landscape and the animals to life. The expressions that have been drawn on the animals are really quite something.

At the back of the book is a guide for young children to read and learn all about how to be kind to others. There are also creative lessons too, making rhino horns and a lions crown, plus many more.

This is a book that would work well in schools. It is a story that will make children stop and think and anything that encourages kindness is simply worth reading. It is beautiful the whole way through and thoroughly enjoyable.

Love big is a playfully narrated mythological fable about the power of kindness, sharing, listening and caring. Animals in the wilds of East Africa had quit believing in their dreams. They have become mean, miserable and hungry as their land has turned dry and desolate. Is this going to be their end??? No.

It starts with the beetle and its kind words to the rhinoceros even when the latter lashes out at it.The kindness of beetle melts rhinoceros heart. How did this kindness develops into sharing, listening, caring, believing, smiling big among the other animals forms the whole story.

All the animals learn they can be kind, they can share, they can listen, they can care and finally they can believe as a WE empowered by the magical, mystical, miraculous star dust that surrounds each one of us.

Overall, the story is inspiring. We are all humans but do we all know the power of love?Really? We are partial and stingy in showing love sometimes or on many occasions. Why is it so? The act of kindness, sharing, listening and caring (you can add some more not mentioned in the book) is missing in this world. We need to first understand what is the root cause. Through ‘Love big’ the author has gifted the readers the contentment of reading a meaningful book.

My verdict

I loved it. The book is humorous and the illustrations are picturesque which makes it worth reading. I recommend this book to readers of all ages. As for children, it needs to be read carefully as they would mistake things and get into unpleasant situations where they can fall victims.

I read this with my daughters (3 & 5), and we all loved the bright, bold, colorful illustrations throughout the book, and also the great message in the story. Mom and kid-approved!

An interesting book with a lesson that children can understand and benefit from. It is also very cute and doesn't bore.

Love Big has a great message but at times it felt a little too "wordy' to keep the attention span of my 6-year-old. I think this might be a great picture book to read with kids around the age of 7-8 because the writing and pages without text were wonderful for starting a dialogue about this important and timely topic.

I did love that it focused on the importance of kindness and supporting one and the illustrations were beautifully done. Thank you to NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for a copy of this book.

Kronenberg's Love Big follows Baboon’s adventures on the African Savanna. Drought has come to the savanna, and the animals begin to grow mean and selfish as food becomes scarce. After seeing an act of kindness by Rhinoceros, Baboon sees how things change, and tries out his theory by helping Lion. Can Baboon help the other savanna animals learn the value of kindness? This was a cute read with lovely artwork. Baboon's lesson spreads, though each savanna resident learns something different. One important lesson is how to maintain your kindness even when people treat you nasty. At the end is a section of suggestions for kids on how to be kind to others. This would be a great addition to any classroom, or kid's library.

I have yet to read Kat Kronenberg's first book, <i>Dream Big</i>, but I am glad that she recognized the need to remain a moral, kind person in the pursuit of dreams. Children need to learn that from day one, otherwise their pursuit of their dreams is all about them and they lose sight of others' needs.

The book is filled with gorgeous, engaging illustrations paired with current, colloquial normal speech. I appreciate that a character exists in the book who sets the example for how to be kind even when someone treats you poorly, rather than a typical children's book wherein the adult figure brings the wisdom down on the kids.

I can see this book working well in a classroom, in homeschool, or just as bedtime reading for all preschool and elementary aged kids. It takes courage to be kind in the face of adversity and we need more courageous people in this world.

A wonderfully illustrated book that encourages love and grace. I enjoyed reading it to my three children very much and they seemed to love it as well. It was engaging and colourful.

A beautifully colorful book for little kids about loving & caring for others, working together to achieve your dreams, sharing a smile & believing in yourself. It follows a group of animals, i.e. lions, dung beetles, hares, rhinos, etc......& they're kind of a fun group for little kids (also has a little snippet of info about each of the creatures involved.) The 'notes for two-leggers of all ages' at the end is a nice add on too....offering ideas for games & kindness. I think little kids would like this, & bigger kids would enjoy reading to/with the littles!

This was the second book in the series and by the author that I have read. It didn't catch my attention (or my childs) as much as the first one did. As with the first, the illustrations were beautiful and the messages were good but I felt it wasn't as powerful as the first. Still overall a great book and can't wait to finish out the series.

My 6-year old read this out loud to me in about 10 minutes. It made her giggle several times and she said the book was entertaining, as well as teaching about kindness.

I love the illustrations in this series of books. The message within the story is hugely important and will need an adult to help children fully understand it. This series would be a great tool in an early elementary classroom. I love the extension activities included at the end of the book.

A great story and beautifully illustrated. I think the extras at the end are brilliant. Great kids story.

Review of eBook

Hundreds of years have passed in the savannas of East Africa. The land is dry; the animals are hungry. But Baboon discovers a powerful secret and helps Rhino, Little Hare, the lions, and the Beetle find their courage and learn an important lesson. However, when the animals laugh at what they believe is a joke, Beetle gets hurt feelings, so Lion and Baboon write a special song for him. And, as the story ends, the animal friends shake pom-pons and celebrate with Baboon’s boom shake celebration.

This mythological fable, the second in a series [following “Dream Big”], reveals the new secret moody Baboon discovers. A footnote provides a brief fact about each of the animals as the young reader meets each of them. The story tells young readers to be kind and to share. Because they are made of star-stuff, they are extraordinary. A positive lesson in how to get along with others, young readers are sure to read this story over and over again.

Recommended.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group in exchange for an honest review.

The illustrations in this book are so vibrant and beautiful. I love the message in this book as it is all about caring, kindness, and listening; we could all have a little more of each of those in our lives.

I like that Kat Kronenberg puts little information tidbits about the animals at the bottom of the page, and I love the 'Notes for two-leggers of all ages' at the end of the book.

After reading Dream Big, I immediately opened this ARC. I would love to recommend these books to my friends who teach primary. Once again, I imagine the visuals that must come with the words.

Our moody Baboon is back and once again we are reminded that stardust is all around us. Here, it makes the world magical. It makes one react to rudeness with kindness and it watches that change the world. Some of the same characters as Dream Big return-Baboon and Termite, for example. And we get a really pushy Rhinoceros and a stubborn hare add to the mix. Plus a few others.

We have a song we can sing along to and more facts and activities to do with our little ones. Kids will love the rhythm and the crafts.

Thank you for the ARC and the chance to read these tales. Though I cannot be in class, I can read them to my granddaughter. We drew our own pictures to go with them, too!

This story is set in the African forest where the characters are all different wild life animals. There are lots of new words to learn and new names of animals to learn, which was really fun for my daughter. The book is filled with sounding words which makes it an exciting read. Each story had a song that rhymed with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star that is easy to follow and sing along with. That also added to the making the book a fun read.

Love Big teaches children that by being kind and sharing, it makes them beautiful. Their beauty will shine out for all others to see.

Love Big is the story of learning to share and care for others around you, even if they are as small as a dung beetle. Throughout the learning, the animals gain new skills, but also new features, like the lion earns his mane and the rhino his horn. It’s a story of learning to see things for another’s perspective and to see the good things that caring produces. A fun read for kids and parents.

'Love Big' by Kat Kronenberg can best be described by the quote, "Share a smile and together, believe!" It carries a message of hope in the time of hunger when the African savannah was going through a dry, desolate patch. David Miles has done a beautiful job of illustrating 'Love Big' by Kat Kronenberg. When rhino is rude to the dung beetle and hurts himself in the process, the beetle surprises rhino by repaying his rudeness with kindness. So sets a chain of events, with each animal repaying the kindness.

Some of the text lacks the rhythm you look for in picture books. That said, the message is one of kindness and hope which the illustrations echo with their starry echoes and colours.

Thank you to Greenleaf Book Group Press, Netgalley and Kat Kronenberg for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really like this series of books. They each have fun little songs woven in, or at least my children and I turned them into songs. And they all have good lessons throughout.

In this second installment, Kat Kronenberg continues the delightful story of animals and insects sharing, listening, learning, friendship, and being kind, She writes in such a fabulous way that kids can relate to and includes little snippets of helpful information to explain concepts and teach about the animals. Beautiful artwork again and very engaging for kids and adults!
