Sweet Romance

He's stuck in the past. She shows him their future.

The brooding Jason Rogers prefers to keep people at a distance and his pain tucked safely inside. So what if he's a grouch? He doesn't care.

Claire Albright isn't afraid to waltz into her new boss's office and give her opinions. The fact she has a tagalong little girl, Gina, who reminds Jason of the daughter he lost, only adds to their bristly start.

Soon, against Jason's will, Claire and Gina inject hope back into his dull existence. Dare he dream of a life he never thought he'd have again?

A sweet, engaging romance, His Second Chance at Forever, is a refreshingly enjoyable read and a great start to the Santa Barbara Sunsets series by Lynne Marshall

A doctor and a nurse with Lupus have sparks, some good, some bad. With back stories to contend with each finds a way to open their mind and heart. Predictable, but there is certainly nothing wrong with that in a romance.

The story of Jason and Claire.

She is new in town, having taken a job at the medical practise owned by Jason.

They disagree from the outset, but the more time they spend together the more they grow to like each other. But can Jason get past his grief to give them a chance?

I really liked this book. It was light reading which is perfect after a long day. The characters are unique and well developed. Dr. Jason Rogers is a compassionate doctor but very hard to get to know. Claire is recently divorced with a little girl and the chance to practice with three other caring doctors is a dream come true. They are even open to her homeopathic remedies. Claire feels a special tie to Jason but cannot figure out how he can be nice to her sometimes and other times withdraws to his office. She is not afraid to stand her ground and say what she thinks. After a few intense events, Dr. Rogers is willing to share why he tries to stay away from getting involved, and open up to Claire and her daughter. The warmth and humor along with the romance is endearing.

His Second Chance at Forever Santa Barbara Sunsets, Book One by Lynne Marshall
Starts with a note from the author about this book, the new series and summarizing the book.
Starts with Jason and his new nurse practitioner is there, Claire Albright.
He hopes having her in the group that it will ease his over scheduling of patients.
Her daughter is with her. Like that the facility is in a Victorian house in Santa Barbara, CA.
From her past she learns how to use and administer halo-caustic medicine. it helps her maintain her Lupus.
They get under each others skin because of how they want to treat the patients. This book has so many components to it. hope you can enjoy them all!
He likes the colors of clothes she wears and that she lets her hair down. Love that she found the garden and I can picture it in my mind.
Like hearing of her ideas to keep the patients calm before their appointments.
Love how he seeks her out for her knowledge of things he's not seen. Emergencies bring them together and they get to know one another.
She realizes there was a wife and child in his life at one time-he's so good with her child.
They get closer but she knows he'd never stick around especially with her illness. Love the location!
Other tragedies occur and even as doctors you wonder how they can get through them.
Other works in the series are highlighted at the end. About the author is also included.
Excerpt included from the next book.
Love the location, the sailing, all medical things including herbs, realistic everyday life events, warnings of toys from fast food places, Storyline, handful of characters, has something for everyone.
Received this review copy via publicist via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

“His Second Chance at Forever: Santa Barbara Sunsets Book One”, by Lynne Marshall, is an utterly romantic story, with a deeply wounded hero and a strong, optimistic heroine, facing a life-altering condition with admirable resilience.
I really love Lynne Marshall’s books and this one is no exception. This author usually creates genuine characters, who, while falling in love, experience realistic doubts, insecurities and fears, and handle their emotions and feelings in a mature way, that might encompass some irrational or silly, yet rather human, reactions. It’s easy to feel connected to this kind of characters.
These characters, including a precious child and some interesting medical staff, are wonderful. Jason and Claire come with baggage of their own. I loved the damaged, sullen, moody hero, whose deep wounds anticipate a difficult healing. Despite the grief, Jason is tender with little Gina and considerate with his patients.
The process of emerging from the emotional limbo he was living in and bonding with Claire and Gina is very well written, although I missed having more sparks and intensity in the romantic relationship.
I enjoyed every part of the plot, with a strong emphasis in the clinic’s everyday life (and an interesting, pedagogical outlook on the thoughtless use of herbal supplements or the benefits of connecting traditional medicine with holistic and alternative care).

This is really a sweet romance. But I was a little surprised that two medical professionals never thought of birth control. But the characters are great and both needed a second chance carrying hurts from previous relationships. And their chemistry was fun.
