Still waters run deep, and none deeper than Susannah. Summer Prescott twists together two most unusual characters, and follows their life together as one tries to make his way in the world as an extreme introvert fascinated with the dead, and the other descends into the madness of a serial killer. How convenient for Susannah that her husband easily fits the stereotype of a sadistic murderer as she tears through a small town trying to sate her need for blood. With unlikely and fragile allies forged along the way, Tim must not fall victim to either the alleged crimes or his own deranged wife, as he tries desperately to preserve his need for solitude.

And just when you think it's over, Prescott delivers the twist that leaves you hoping for a sequel.

After all, it's always the quiet ones...

This quirky novel, full of macabre humor and grisly details, is laugh-out-loud funny. It's a fun romp through a bizarre yet strangely familiar world. It's difficult to describe. Terrible things are said and done, but I found myself laughing out loud at them. Even though it's full of blood and gore, it's oddly lighthearted. I caught myself smiling a lot reading this.

Susannah Guntzelman is a very strange girl. Her father hates her and torments her cruelly. He is sadistic and controlling. She can't wait to leave home. She dislikes people and just wants to be left alone to get through high school. In spite of wishing to be invisible, she reacts vigorously, meting out revenge, when she feels she's been wronged.

She meets an equally introverted and unusual person, Timothy Eckels, when they are assigned to be lab partners. They are surprised and pleased to find they both enjoy cutting up cadavers and animals. She is surprised to find someone she can tolerate, even relate to, and eventually they marry.
He becomes a mortician, and she becomes a chef. Both of them continue with their enjoyment of knives and cutting flesh in these professions. However, she develops an additional secret "heinous hobby" that shocks and frightens him when he discovers it.
Each of the characters is well defined and delightful, even the villainous ones. The plot moves along at just the right pace, and the authors tongue-in-cheek humor permeates everything. A remarkably cheerful bloodfest. You won't be disappointed.
Highly recommended.

Note: I received an eARC from the publisher in efforts an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, when I wasn't feeling totally grossed out! I honestly thought Tim was going to freak me out more than Susannah, but I actually liked Tim alot. This story ramps up the suspense and intensity with each chapter and I like the way the story ended. Book 2? I highly recommend this captivating thriller!
